October 20, 2014

Hello again dear family and friends. Another great week in the books! It sounds like you are still all doing well and keeping happy. It is always so good to hear from you and to hear about all of your many blessings! Like I said, this past week was an incredible one for Elder Bates and I. We sure have been blessed on this end.

This past week started and ended with miracles. The beginning of the week consisted of us saying goodbye to the man and his family that we met at the train station last week and they told us that they were heading out to the north of Spain the next day. We were sad to see them go, but we are grateful for the opportunity we had to meet them and to share just a little bit about this gospel message that has blessed our lives so richly. I pray that they may receive the Elders up there in London. They are such an incredible family!

This week we were also able to have some significant lessons with Al and a number of other menos activos in the area. This week we had a cool experience with a menos activo that resulted from just a little visit from a mission friend. Right now a friend from Germany is here visiting and felt like he should pass by and visit a mission friend. It turns out that right now he is passing through a really hard time and the visit was an answer to his prayers. He ended up visiting with us the next day and telling us, "Elders, you are an answer to my prayers. Lately I have just been lost and I have been praying to God to find guidance again in my life." It was a testimony to me that God answers prayers through other people. We, and His children are truly His hands. It reminded me of the message, The Hope of God´s Light. If you haven´t seen it, I would definitely recommend it!

The highlight of the week of course was the preparation, baptism, and confirmation of J. Really these past two months have been absolutely incredible to see the progression in him and to see how the message and the gospel of Jesus Christ really can change lives for the better. I love this message. Anyway, this took up the brunt of our week. We have been meeting with members, getting the interview taken care of, filling up the font and everything here and there so that the service went well. The service went perfectly. It was so incredible to see the branch come together and the support they showed for this most important day for J. As we were there in the capilla getting everything set up, I just looked around and realized that I am with some of the most special Saints this world has to offer. They will be blessed. It really is a special rama. As Elder Bates and I were waiting for the portable font to fill up we were sitting in the capilla and I came across a scripture that really hit me in Msh. 18:30
30. And now it came to pass that all this was done in Mormon, yea by the waters of Mormon, in the forest that was near the waters of Mormon yea, the place of Mormon, the waters of Mormon, the forest of Mormon, how beautiful are they to the eyes of them who there came to the knowledge of their Redeemer yea, and how blessed are they, for they shall sing to his praise forever.
As I looked up at the blue font, I looked at it out of the eyes of the many converts that have come to know their Redeemer there, how beautiful it was. J had a ton of support from his family and the rama. He was glowing.
I love this work. I am very grateful for you and your prayers. Have a wonderful week!

Well my dear family, it was so wonderful to hear from you today and to hear that everything went well with the WEDDING! I am so happy for you T and B! It sounds like we both had good weeks, over there, and over here!

This past week we had a lot of miracles, Elder Bates and I, and it all started on Monday. This past Pday we were in Jerez spending time with the other Elders and Hermanas. We were able to play soccer and end the day ordering some nice pizza, but that isn´t the highlight. As Elder Bates and I said farewell and headed to the bus stop to wait for our bus we passed a man sitting cross legged on the ground playing on the phone with his son. As we passed we just said hello and continued to purchase our tickets. As soon as we had the tickets, Elder Bates and I both knew we needed to go back out and talk with him. We were able to talk to him the whole ride home! He is here helping his parents get moved in and he and his family will be heading out here next month or so but while he is here he would love to have us over. On the bus he actually invited us over Wednesday night to enjoy areipa with he and his family. We ended up going over Wednesday to share a message and areipa, back Thursday to pick up our umbrella, and Friday to visit with them again. They are literally the most prepared people I have met out here. I already see them as members. I wish so much that they will accept this message of happiness! It is a beautiful message!

Update on our investigator, he is doing so well! Today we finished our last message with him on temple work and la obra misional. He has progressed so so much and we are planning on the interview this Wednesday and the service on Saturday. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers!

A nice story to end. This past week we were at the church pretty late teaching a lesson. After the lesson we packed up and were on our way home. As we were walking we spotted Hermano T on the street. We headed over there to see how he was doing and to see if there was anything we could do to help him. He is experiencing some back pains and basically told us it was a VERY low moment for him. He said when he was in his lowest moment he looked up and saw two white shirts and smiles coming at him. He said "Angels were to the rescue." Missionary work is a very humbling work.

I love you all. Have the best week!

October 6, 2014 - Congrats Tracie and Brady!

Well, first things first, I just wanted to let T and B know how happy I am for them for their big day this THURSDAY!! The date always looked so far away from this end, but it has come so fast! I am so happy for you, and grateful for the knowledge we have that families are forever. I will be there with you on Thursday!

As for our week here - Great. This past week was crazy with a lot of traveling, conferences both Zone and General, studying, lessons and everything in between. The missionary life is a good one.

Well, General Conference as you all know was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the voice of our beloved Prophet President Thomas S. Monson and all of his counselors. I loved hearing all of the talks and the themes they focused on. I really recognized the focus on Prophets, Personal Testimony, Family, La Santa Cena, and of course our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All of this is possible because of Him. My poor comp probably thinks I am crazy. I just get really excited when this time of year comes around. I am looking forward to reading the messages over, and studying what the Lord would have us hear. Good stuff.

This past week we also had Zone Conference in Sevilla. We spent Tuesday night in the Jerez Elders piso so we could head out bright and early Wednesday morning. All of the speakers were inspired and the spirit was very strong. The APs talked about the model of commitments. Hermana Deere spoke on how to become a happy and healthy missionary. President Deere gave an incredible taller (workshop) on the Atonement of Christ. It was exactly what we needed to hear in preparation for conference. I was also able to see some of my best mission friends including my dudes from Molina Elder Patterson and Webb. I have been blessed with wonderful comps!

Elders Webb, Farrell, Patterson
Elders Bates, Farrell, Adamson, Lelegren

When we did have time to work in our area we were very blessed. Here are the basic updates of the week of work! We had a wonderful member present lesson with our investigator on baptism and confirmation - it was just what he needed. He also joined us all day yesterday watching conference in the Stake Center. "I loved the words of Prophet Monson" Me too. On Thursday we threw a great Noche de Hogar with the Rama and Friday we were invited to the mutual as the special guests to teach them how to make brownies. They definitely weren´t moms but they worked! On Friday we were able to set a baptismal date with another one of our investigators. The work is going forward.

I love you all! Have a great week! Happy wedding TandB!!
