August 18, 2014

Hello there family!! Right now I am here in the library. It is incredible how much of a difference it makes coming here rather than going to the chungo loc across the street... ha we will definitely be coming back here. Anyways, I loved hearing from all of you today and to hear that you are all doing well. Shout out to Naters who is starting school on Tue!! Good luck big guy!! I can’t believe that you are already in 8th grade!? Sheesh... time is going!

Anyways, this past week was a different week for my companion and I. We started out really strong and then on Thursday my companion got.... his wisdom teeth removed. Poor guy... haha it wasn´t fun getting mine out when I wasn’t a missionary and I had my MOM! Ha he is doing a lot better now which is good.

Like I said, the first half of the week started nice and strong. Right now Elder Melgarejo and I are really working hard to try to get this area back on its feet. It is a touristy area by the beach, which adds some challenge, but we know that there really is some great potential here. Our goal is to try to help the branch as much as we can. We feel like if we can clean from the "inside out" then our investigators will feel much more comfortable with our services. We know that we cannot do this on our own, but with the help and support of the leaders and the Lord, we are excited to see what can happen here.  With that we are really working hard to strengthen what we have with the members and menos activos.

On Wednesday we were able to contact our new investigator. Last week we had received a reference from the church of someone that had asked for a copy of the Book of Mormon from the website. This past week we were finally able to get in contact with him and have a great cita! We were able to explain the Book of Mormon and explain our purpose as missionaries. We are working towards the goal of the 13th of September for a baptismal fecha. We are looking forward to visiting again with him on Wednesday. He is a 21 year old from this area. He is a good kid from a good family. He has some Mormon friends and what called his attention was the good atmosphere that was always with him and his friends. Right there we learn the importance of always being a good example.

We were also able to meet with various MA during the course of the week. I am truly grateful for this message and the covenants that we have made as members. This week I read a talk from Elder Scott that really hit me. One of the paragraphs said, "When you focus your life on the basic principles of the plan of salvation, you will better concentrate on sharing what you know because you understand the eternal importance of the ordinances of the gospel. You will share what you know in a way that encourages your friends to want to be strengthened spiritually. You will help your loved ones want to commit to obey all of His commandments and take upon themselves the name of Jesus Christ." (I Have Given You an Example) This talk really just sums it all up. With an understanding of the Plan of Salvation, which this gospel gives us, we are able to better concentrate our efforts on sharing the principles of this gospel that have an eternal significance. I love this gospel. I know it is true.
I love you all!!! Have a great week.

Elder Farrell
