The Zone on Preparation Day
Hello sweet family! I cannot believe we are already doing this again, this past week has just completely flown by! I also cannot believe that this week I hit my 6 month mark as a full time missionary. These past 6 months I have seen and learned so much. I have had great days, and hard days, seen blessings and miracles, and sometimes, I have seen nothing to do at all, but overall I have come to develop a deep love for this work. There is no question in my mind that this is the work of the Lord, and this is His church. I am so grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the opportunity I have been given to serve in the south of Spain for two short years. What a wonderful thing. This past week was great.
Lunes- Monday morning for Pday, it was time for me to get a hair cut (my hair was far overdue for a cut). Anyways, at 1.30 we passed by the peluqueria (barber shop) and I was able to get my haircut. As I was talking to the peluquer (barber) he asked me the question missionaries love to hear, "What are you two doing here" we were able to talk about the church for a good hour, and it turns out that his sister is a member in Florida. He commented on how happy she always is, and he just said he didn´t understand it. We were able to visit with him a few times this week, which was neat! Monday night we went over to the Espinozas so they could help us make sectors on our map of the menos activos (less active) in our ward that we needed to stop by. They are such a big help and blessing for us. They are such an incredible family!
Martes- One service that we offer as missionaries is we teach free English class every Tuesday and Thursday night in the Capilla (chapel). Elder Nyland and I are the teachers of the beginner class, and it is so much fun. We meet new people every week and we try our best to teach them basic English skills. This past week we had a neat opportunity. As we were about to begin class two more students walked in. They walked in with stone faces, and the first question they asked us was "Is this going to be English class, or is this going to be a gospel introduction" I told them that from 7.30 to 8.30 we would be teaching English Class, and after if they wanted to stay we were sharing a message. After the class and message, they left grinning ear to ear. One of my favorite things of being a missionary is making people happy. It was such a sweet thing to see, and they came back Thursday ready to go!
Miercoles- This past week we have really been focusing on our miracle part- member family. We have really been focused on the son to get him prepared for his baptism, so we have been visiting with him a lot lately to get him prepared, and to cover all of the lessons. At the end of the lesson we told him that his baptism would be held on Saturday at 6 30, and he was a little hesitant because he knew he had a soccer game, but he didn´t know what time. Right at this point his older brother hopped in and said, "You can tell your coach that you are making the biggest decision of your life and that you will not be able to make it to the game. You can tell your coach that you are being baptized a member of la Iglesia de JesuCristo de los Santos de los Ultimos Dias" (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) The Spirit was so strong. This family is incredible.
Viernes- Friday night we had another great lesson with the son, and we taught him Seguir al Profeta. (Follow the Prophet) We watched the President Thomas S. Monson video, and it was so great. I am so grateful to have a Prophet on the earth today leading and guiding this church. I am so grateful for his example of lifelong service.
Sabado- After a great day of work, we finished the night off with a Noche de Hogar (FHE) with the incredible Espinoza family. I have learned so so much from this incredible family. They are truly some of my heros. We had a family night on la obra misional (missionary work), and it is crazy that it still hits me so hard that I am finally here. They showed us the video that they played and the hastening the work fireside about missionary work, I would really recommend it.
Domingo- My favorite day of the week. Church was a little crazy today with so much going on within the ward, but everything always works out. After ward council meeting, Elder Nyland and I went to our every Sunday medio dia (noon) lunch with sweet Hermana Gabi. She always feeds us interesting food, but we sure love her. She takes such great care of us. Tonight we ended the night with an incredible noche de hogar (FHE) with our part-member family. We taught them El Dia de Reposo (Sabath Day Holy). It was such a spiritual lesson, and the son is really progressing. We were able to change his fecha (date) to the 8th of February so his father can baptize him. This family is such a miracle. He said something really nice during the lesson. "This message is literally the reason why I am here. I was with my friends, and I looked down at my clock and realized I had to be home with my family so that I could meet with the Elders. Ever since I have heard this message, I have just felt so much peace with myself, and around the home. I haven´t raised my voice or been acting like a child." The spirit was so powerful. We ended the night with a nice game of Jenga with them.
I know this letter is a little long, but this week was so incredible. The Lord is really blessing us here, and all of His missionaries all around the world. This is His work. I love it.
I love you all so so much, and am ever grateful for you! Until next week
The Pueblo Life,
Elder Dallin Farrell
